This course is aimed at experienced electricians who wish to gain further skills in inspection, testing and certification of electrical installations. It is not aimed a people with limited electrical qualifications or experience.

The course has two units:

2391-301 Technical Knowledge of the Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations - Written Dated Entry (previously -101)

2391-302 Practical Application of the Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations - Practical Results Entry (previously -102)

The course involves 3 days training followed by 1 day practical and theory assessment.

Students must hold the City & Guilds 2382 17th Edition Wiring Regulations in order to be accepted on this course and be 18 or over years old.

Assessment is by a 2.5 hour written paper and 1/2 day practical assessment. City & Guilds are responsible for setting the written paper and it is only release six times per year.

Throughout the 3 day training period practical testing procedures will be demostrated and students have the opportunity to practice the following:

  • Introduction to Inspection & Testing
  • Testing Equipment
  • Order of Tests
  • Continuity of protective conductors
  • Insulation resistance tests
  • Polarity and Earth electrode tests
  • Earth fault loop impedance tests
  • RCD tests
  • Rarely used tests

On successful completion of the 2391-10 course candidates may go onto the 2391-20 Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations which is aimed at personal responsible for the Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations.

City & Guilds 2382 17th Edition Wiring Regulations Course - FAQs

Q - What books do I need to bring for the course?

A - We provide you with a copy of the BSI 17th Edition Wiring Regulations to use on the course, although we strongly recommend you purchase your own copy. Included in the course fees is the NIC 17th Edition training manual (413 pages).  The BSI 17th Edition Wiring Regulations maybe purchased from on online electrical shop.

Q - What are your course times?

A - Four week days in a row (9am - 4.30pm, with a late finish on the last day 9.30pm)

Q - How much deposit is required?

A - £200

Q - What happens if I fail the course?

A - The practical retake fee is £150 plus vat and the written paper fee is £125 plus vat. PPL will re-arrange assessment times to suit. The written paper for this certificate is centrally set and marked by City & Guilds. The paper is only set 6 times a year so candidates will have to wait until the next examination date if they fail their previous attempt. The practical assessments however can be done anytime.
