New Entrant Domestic Green Deal Advisor (Assessor) Training Course(s) - Combined Offer.

The Green Deal offers a huge potential for both existing industry members (Energy Assessors and installers) and new entrants from other backgrounds - for those installing the Green Deal measures and assessing a property's suitability for the Green Deal. The course combines both a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor and Domestic Green Deal Assessor - thus giving earning potentials in both disciplines.

PPL Training is working with a number of Green Deal Providers including Toriga, Insta Group and Climate Energy to offer our customers a complete Green Deal pathway from initial training through to registration and Green Deal Provider partnership.  PPL has created a package of accredited training courses and qualifications to meet the up skilling demands of new entrant Domestic Green Deal Advisor from non-related industry background.

The course takes 2 weeks to complete and can be taken in weekly blocks, subject to availability.

The course is aimed at people wishing to retrain to become Domestic Green Deal Assessors and is specifically aimed at persons from a non-construction / trade background.  We deliver leading training in this field, there are other training providers who ‘fast track’ courses. New Entrant Domestic Green Deal Advisor (Assessor) Training Course(s) - Combined Theory Overview:

From the minute you arrive at our front door to the minute you finish your course, we want to ensure that your personal experience with us is of the highest quality. A Step-by-Step Guide to the processes and the theory content that you will encounter when undertaking our joint Domestic Energy Assessor and Green Deal Domestic Advisor training courses is below.

Receive Your Own Personal PPL Pack

When you arrive at PPL Training, you will receive everything that you will need for your DEA course, as well as items you can use once you are fully qualified. This includes a camera, pen, ruler, laptop and an A4 clipboard; as well as you own personal portfolio file for collating your work.

In-Depth Theory-Based Learning

During your first day at PPL Training, you will be sat in a classroom-based learning environment, where you will study the background of energy efficiency and general building construction; as well as an overview of what you will be doing for the rest of the week. You will be in a small group to ensure that everybody receives high-quality training tailored to them.

Use Of Specialist Software

Once the practical portion of the DEA course is over (see Practical Overview tab), you will use specialist Energy Assessing and Green Deal software called RdSAP. On the DEA course you will input information you have gathered on the property assessments to generate your own EPCs, whereas on the GDA portion of the course you will use the information supplied from the completed EPC and occupancy assessment. You will be fully trained on this software which is used professionally, leaving you feeling competent and confident for the future.

1-2-1 Training

Our dedicated and experienced trainers will work with you extensively in the classroom to answer any questions you have, as well as assist you in making subjective decisions and assumptions. If required, we have ‘focus rooms’ for 1-2-1 learning.

Complete Portfolio Build

Once each EPC has been generated, the last day of the course is spent collating all documentation and supporting evidence such as site notes, site plans, tables of calculations, datasheets and Inspection Risk Assessments into your finished portfolio.

 Role Play Scenario

On the 2 day Green Deal portion of the course, the learning is 100% classroom based. As part of the City & Guilds assessment, however, you undertake a fun and interactive Live Assessment Scenario. This is where you act as the Green DealAdvisor and the trainer acts as the Green Deal Customer. The tape recording of this then forms part of the portfolio which is sent to City & Guilds

Hand In Your Completed Portfolio

On both courses, the last thing you will do is hand in your fully completed portfolio folder for internal verification by our trainers, before it is sent to City & Guilds for final assessment. Our trainers will individually spend up to 3 hours assessing your completed portfolio after you have left the course, ensuring it is of the highest industry standard. This will increase the likelihood that City & Guilds issue your qualification in suitable and efficient timescales.

New Entrant Domestic Green Deal Advisor (Assessor) Training Course(s) - Combined Practical Overview:

As part of your Domestic Energy Assessing (DEA) Training you will visit 5 different domestic property types and perform a thorough inspection and assessment of its energy efficiency. This is necessary in order to complete your portfolio, which is what allows you to apply for the City & Guilds-approved Domestic Energy Assessing certificate.

A Word of Caution: most other Domestic Energy Assessment Training companies DO NOT provide complete access to all 5 properties and you may be left stuck trying to find locations that fit the specific criteria. The criteria for the properties requires that you visit and assess 5 separate properties that match the following:

At the properties, you will attempt to put into practice everything you have learnt in the classroom on Day 1 with assistance from the trainer who will also be accompanying you to the properties.

Arrive At The Properties

On arrival at the properties, you will make general observations of the exterior of the
buildings to establish features such as age and construction make up.
After this, you will then venture inside every room the property has to offer to
undertake a wide array of observations and calculations.

Practical Assessment Of Properties

During the practical assessments on the 5 properties provided by PPL Training, you
will conduct hands-on calculations and observations; including calculating room sizes,
measuring wall thickness, examining electrical and heat provision, taking images and
sketching diagrams. You will use a variety of different apparatus implemented by professional Domestic Energy Assessors.

As seen in the Theory Overview tab, you will collate your observations and sketches into your portfolio, using specialist software (RdSAP) in order to generate professional Energy Performance Certificates (EPC).
