PPL Weekend Central heating installation course (water side only)

This course is aimed at people who are working as domestic plumbers and would like to gain the skills to install central heating systems (no gas). It covers customer requirements, site survey, system design including heat loss calculations, installation of a combination boiler jig (no gas) , fault finding, power flushing, jig commissioning, CHESS best practice and many other related topics.

After this course you will be able to offer full installation of a combination boiler and central heating, providing you work with a CORGI Gas registered plumber to run the gas, check the system and commission the boiler. As you are a self-employed plumber will be able to do the majority of the work. Generally using a CORGI engineer for 1-2 days.

The course is taught by our resident CORGI registered engineer Paul Coggon who has over 35 years of experience in the heating industry as a gas engineer. There is a maximum of 8 students on the course and an additional trainer will join you for the practical sessions.

This course runs over a long weekend; Friday to Sunday.

PPL Weekend Central heating installation course (water side only) Practical overview:

The practical sessions on the central heating course cover the following topics (note it does not cover any gas or oil pipework):

• Site survey and pipe runs
• First fix pipework
• Radiator assembly and connections
• Jig assembly
• Electrics
• Powerflushing
• Fault finding (water only)
• System commissioning

Students are taught in small groups in our modern well equipped plumbing training centre. They are provided with all the materials, tools and safety equipment required.

A - No, it is illegal to touch gas pipe or appliances unless the person holds ACS gas qualifications and is CORGI Gas registered. This course only covers the water side and outside the boiler cover.
