The Green Deal allows householders, business and other organisations to make energy efficiency improvements to their properties at no upfront cost. Expected to be launched by Government in autumn of this year, the Green Deal will revolutionise the energy efficiency of the UK’s existing buildings. There are no upfront costs to the consumer as the energy efficiency improvement cost is divided into a loan repayment and collected over a period of up to 25 years as a charge on their electricity bill. The Green Deals ‘Golden Rule’ is that the annual loan repayment must be less that the annual energy savings from the installation of the energy efficiency measure such as insulation, energy efficiency boilers, renewables, double glazing, etc.
Green Deal Assessors will be required to visit properties and assess their suitability for Green Deal energy efficiency Measures, then create a Green Deal Plan. The Green Deal Plan will suggest energy efficiency improvements to the property and explain the Green Deal finance options.
