NICEIC Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) course Overview NICEIC Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) course Theory Overview NICEIC Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) course Practical Overview NICEIC Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) course FAQs

This course has been developed by NICEIC who are using PPL as their pilot centre for course developement and training.  Initially launched as a 3-day course, due to recent amendments to the National Occupation Standards imposed on the industry, this will increase to 3-days from January 2010 to comply with the further training and assessments required.  A one-day "bridging" course will be launched in January 2010 for anyone who attends the 2-day course in 2009 to ensure they fulfill the training and assessment criteria with NICEIC.

This Solar Photovoltaic course is open to anyone wishing to gain further skills in the design, installation, commissioning of Solar PV systems - however **only a registered full scope electrician must make the final grid connections and testing before the system goes live.  Therefore to achieve the full installers certificate on this course, candidates must hold a Part P Full Scope and 17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification..  We offer the Bpec Part P Full Scope Electrical course and the City & Guilds 17th Edition Wiring Regulations course which will provide the qualifications required to acheive the full installation certificate and assessments.

The course will cover:

  • Environmental background
  • Different types of solar PV technology
  • Design and specification of solar PV systems
  • Installation of solar PV systems
  • Commissioning and testing systems
  • Maintenance of solar PV systems
  • Government grants and funding bodies

We provide the following manual to use whilst on your course: Planning and Installing Photovoltaic Systems: A Guide for Installers, Architects and Engineers (Planning and Installing Series).

You can purchase a copy of this manual from our shop - please click here for more details.

The installation of Solar PV will naturally involve working at heights and the manual handling of potentially heavy equipment.  It is for that reason that NICEIC, the certification body, has included the prerequisite qualifications of NICEIC Working at Heights and NICEIC Manual Handling.  This can be taken as part of the Solar Photovoltaic course package (on an extra fourth day), or if the candidate has previous qualifications or experience, by a written assessment paper.  If you do not hold the NICEIC Working at Heights and Manual Handling qualifications, please contact our booking department on 01904 870486 to discuss your needs.

** for full NICEIC Solar PV certification, candidates must possess a Part P Full Scope qualification and 17th edition wiring regulations as a minimum.

Non-electricians can sit the non-installers version of this course for £510 + VAT, please call to book your place.
