Training to be a Plumber

At PPL we offer a range of plumbing courses from weekend introductory plumbing courses right through to the NVQ 2 in Plumbing and CORGI Gas training.  We are a flexible training company and have the ability to offer our plumbing students a range of payment and training options for their plumbing training.

In order to gain your full NVQ level 2 in Plumbing you must successfully achieved the following plumbing certificates:

• City & Guilds 6129 Technical Certificate in Plumbing L2 (taken at PPL)
• City & Guilds 6089 NVQ in Plumbing L2 (done onsite)

The City & Guilds 6129 is done at PPL over a period of 8 weeks and our City & Guilds 6129 with LOGIC plumbing course includes 4 other nationally recognised plumbing certificates.

For students with little or no plumbing experience we recommend taking our Weekend Introduction to Plumbing course first then moving on to the City & Guilds 6129 with LOGIC plumbing course.

We understand that not all plumbing students may have the opportunity or financial circumstances to support an eight week plumbing course in one go. Therefore we are one of the few plumbing training centres in the UK to offer the NVQ 2 in Plumbing on a flexible training and payment basis (for no extra fees).  We also offer a Buy Now Pay Later scheme and assistance with accommodation fees.

Plumbers are increasingly asked to do minor electrical work in peoples homes. From 2005 (in England and Wales) this came under new Building Regulations changes.

We offer a full range of electrical courses which are aimed specifically at plumbers wishing to do minor electrical works. For those considering a move into the plumbing industry we also recommend taking the Bpec Part P course (defined scope) as a minimum to ensure compliance with relevent electrical regulations.  Our City & Guilds 6129 with LOGIC plumbing course includes a free 2 day PPL Pre-part P electrical training course which is aimed at students with little or no previous electrical experience.

   

Training to be a plumber is only the first step, after this comes either self-employment or working for an established plumbing company. We can help you with both. There is a guaranteed work placement scheme for our plumbing students completing their City & Guilds 6129 plumbing course. You will be placed with a PPL trained plumber or On Tap UK for a week after successfully completing of the course. This may lead to further paid employment or sub-contract work. We will also assist you in gaining a full time plumbing position with a national or local plumbing company. This is subject to available vacancies and your performance at the interview.

Many training centres tell potential trainees of vast salaries plumbers can earn. We on the other hand are open and honest. The majority of our self-employed plumbers earn between £25,000 and £30,000 per year. It is hard work both physically and mentally, and the hours can be long. The rewards included being your own boss, running your own business and managing your own working hours.

The potential for expanding you business is in your hands. Plumbing is only the start. You may want to move into gas, oil or renewable energy technologies in the future. After qualifing with PPL you will be able to join Concept's network of sub-contracting insurance claims repair specialists. This work is "recession proof" in dealing with insurance repair work such as food damage, fire damage, burst pipes, etc. Concept has 138 offices throughout the UK and as a PPL trained plumber you will join a long established sub-contracting network while enjoying top rates of pay for small and large insurance jobs.
