Bpec Unvented Hot Water Systems Course Overview


This Bpec Unvented Hot Water Systems course is aimed at plumbers and heating engineers wanting to legally install, service or commission domestic  hot water systems in the UK.  It is a legal requirement of the building regulations that all domestic unvented hot water systems over 15 litres capacity are maintained by a qualified person.  A qualified person is someone who holds a current recognised Unvented Hot Water Storage certificate.

The certificate is valid for 5 years, after which the holder must attend an approved centre and take an unvented hot water re-assessment course.

Candidates wishing to attend this course must hold a recognised Trade qualification in either Plumbing, Gas or heating and ventilation.  Alternatively, they must provide evidence that they have experience working in the industry in the form of a CV with references that can verify their experience.  For reassessment, candidates must provide their current certificate.

This qualification is also valid for solar hot water engineers who must gain an unvented course certificate as a prerequisite of attending the Bpec Solar Hot Water course.

All candidates will receive 260 in CASH BACK vouchers from Santon.  After completing the course and registering with Santon you will be able to claim 15 in cash back for every Santon Unvented Hot Water system purchased.

Bpec Unvented Hot Water Systems Course Theory Overview

The theory course is taught in our modern, well equipped training rooms and the lively and interactive sessions cover the following topics:

Induction to the Unvented Course
Course program, introductions, general procedures for training and assessment.

Module 1 -  Unvented Hot Water Systems and their operating Principles
The options for supplying domestic hot water including; conventional heating systems, storage water heaters (electric), bulk storage water heaters, water jacketed tube heaters, combination boilers.

Module 2 -  Design and Installation of Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems
Pipework runs, discharge pipework, commissioning, cold water supply, hot water supply, controls, sealed heating systems, safety checks.

Module 3 - Maintenance of Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems
Identify typical Unvented hot water storage system maintenance procedures, and establish a typical range of faults which may occur with the systems and the state the typical fault diagnosis actions to rectify the faults.

Module 4 -  Other applicable Building Regulations
State the other Building Regulations and Approval Documents that apply to the installation of hot water storage systems and the effects these regulations and documents have on the installation of hot water storage systems.

There is an open book multiple choice examination at the end of the days training together with a practical fault finding session.

Bpec Unvented Hot Water Systems Course Practical Overview

Practical training sessions for this Unvented Hot Water course take place on our purpose built unvented hot water training rigs.  These unvented rigs allow the experienced unvented tutor to safely simulate dangerous situations that can occur on the unvented systems.
