Course Overview
This City & Guilds Assured course will provide an understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the nominated Competent Responsible Person, within the Water Safety Group, for the supervision, effective implementation and management of Legionella risk assessments, remedial work and management of water systems to help comply with Health Technical Memorandum 04-01.

We also offer this course as a online remote training course.
Who is This Course For?
For members of the Water Safety Group who have responsibility within a healthcare environment to ensure adequate control measures are in place for the safe operation of hot and cold water systems.

Tony Green

Water Hygiene Training Manager

Tony is a Water Hygiene Training Manager with over 40 years in the water industry; 10 years of which as a service engineer and 30 years within training and education. Tony started training in 1984 for a major European boiler manufacturer where he became the training manufacturer for the product range. After successfully establishing the training division Tony moved on in 1990 to the Water Industry organisation where he helped develop training courses for Legionella water management which also included undertaking on-site Legionella risk assessments. Tony also had a period where he trained for the water utility and mains distribution, before moving back to take management control of the water (legionella) management courses. Tony has extensive knowledge and experience in legionella control and has trained some of the country's leading facilities management and construction companies, both in the UK and abroad.

Adrian Thompson

Senior Water Hygiene Training Consultant

Adrian is a Senior Water Hygiene Training consultant with over 35 years experience in commercial / industrial water systems. Adrian has hands on experience working with tools to deliver and develop training courses for a wide range of disciplines in Facilities Management to the Healthcare (NHS), Public Services and the Ministry of Defence (MOD). He has also undertaken project managed schemes to the likes of Balfour Beatty Workplace, Babcock, Interserve, Norlands, Carillon, The Mid Yorkshire Trust, Lyonnaise-des-eaux which has taken him to Gibraltar, Dubai and Brunei. Adrian has extensive experience and knowledge of Water System designs and their controls, in order to provide companies and individuals with the very best information to ensure compliance and effective management systems. This includes tailoring individual customer needs to standards such as the Approved Code of Practice L8 (Commercial) or HTM's (Healthcare).

Kevin Hook

Senior Water Hygiene Training Consultant

Kevin has over 45 years experience in the plumbing and heating industry, as well as over 18 years teaching experience. He began his career as an apprentice and has worked his way up through various plumbing and heating companies. After successfully establishing himself as a plumber, Kevin moved into managing installations at Dolphin Bathroom Ltd before becoming a Project Manager at Wilson & Wright Ltd. Kevin has worked at various training companies as a tutor before joining PPL Training in 2007.

Senior Water Hygiene Training Consultant

Les has over 35 years' experience within the air and water hygiene industry and is based at our training centre in Slough. Les has many accomplishments to date including establishing a UKAS (formerly NAMAS) accredited laboratory to test for legionellae, water quality and fungi. Over the forthcoming years he became involved in the areas of Sick Building Syndrome, Hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) and risk assessments providing consultancy and advisory services for several clients. These sectors included banking, manufacturing, aquaculture, whisky & spirits, oil, construction and NHS Scotland.

A: Legionella is a single bacterium of the legionellae.
Q: What is a duty holder?
A: The duty holder is an employer or person in control of a premises for example a landlord. The duty holder is also responsible for appointing the responsible person.
Q: What is the responsible person?
A: This is someone who is appointed by the duty holder and has the day-to-day responsibility for managing and controlling risks from legionella bacteria.
Q: Other than hospitals where is this course appropriate?
A: Our HTM 04-01 courses are suitable for any healthcare environment, including hospitals, dental surgeries and carehomes.
