What does the 18th Edition Wiring Regulation Amendment 4 mean to you?

The electrical landscape is evolving, and so are our courses. Is your 18th Edition up to date? With the latest amendments to the Wiring Regulations, ensure your electrical team works to the most up-to-date safety standards to avoid liability and maintain site safety.

Following the release of BS 7671 (Amendment 4), PPL Training is now delivering the updated City & Guilds 2382-26 qualification. This qualification is primarily aimed at practising electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals: surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IET Wiring Regulations. It is also suitable for anyone wishing to demonstrate an understanding of the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) to the latest standard.

To ensure we are fully aligned with the new requirements of Amendment 4. PPL has implemented the following training initiatives:

What’s Actually Changing?

Amendment 4 brings several 'firsts' to the Wiring Regulations. Our expert tutors have identified necessary core areas where your team will likely need immediate up-skilling: Stationary Secondary Batteries: With the surge in solar-plus-storage, we finally have dedicated regulations for battery siting, fire segregation, and thermal management.

Power over Ethernet - PoE: As PoE moves from office phones to high-wattage smart lighting and CCTV, Amendment 4 introduces strict rules on cable heating and grouping factors to prevent melted trunking.

Medical Locations: A massive overhaul for healthcare settings, including mandatory new scheduling of Test Results for supplementary bonding.

Functional Earthing for ICT: A clear distinction is finally drawn between Protective Earthing (for safety) and Functional Earthing (for signal integrity and noise reduction in server rooms).
